About Us "A hundred years from now, it will not matter the sort of house I lived in, what my bank account was, or the car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of the animals and the creatures on this earth."
Desert Shepherds is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the German Shepherd breed by combining only the most outstanding animals for the best temperament, health, longevity, intelligence and conformation. Desert Shepherds is not a commercial kennel; that is, we do not breed dogs for the purpose of turning a profit. We are professional dog trainers specializing in working dogs for service, obedience and agility. We do not breed to produce puppies. Each breeding is carefully planned as we keep puppies from each litter for disability assistance and search and rescue training. All remaining puppies are placed into wonderful caring homes with people seeking a high energy, loving and intelligent companion. Because our dogs are home-raised, not mass-produced, they are all part of the family. We have very close interaction with each puppy from birth. We temperament test and assess each one of their personalities as they grow. German Shepherds are intelligent, sensitive, people-oriented dogs that need proper stimulation to reach their potential. Desert Shepherd puppies are provided with the kind of start in life that gives a basis for reaching their full potential as companions or competitors. The German Shepherd Dog is not a breed for everyone. They can have high energy levels and are a natural working dog, so it requires a dedicated dog owner to provide the required amounts of exercise and attention to keep a shepherd happy and healthy. German Shepherd Dogs should have a "job" to do such as obedience, schutzhund, agility, disability assistance or search and rescue. These are some of the fields in which our dogs have succeeded, and this is when they are the most satisfied. Even if you want your dog to be a family pet, your dog must still have formal obedience training to be a proper canine good citizen. Your puppy is learning 24 hours a day, whether you choose to be part of the process or not...remember we all create our own monsters. |
